onsemi for traction inverters for Mercedes

onsemi (Nasdaq: ON), a leader in smart energy and sensor technologies, announced that as part of a strategic collaboration, Mercedes-Benz has introduced Onsemi silicon carbide (SiC) technology for traction inverters. onsemi’s VE-Trac SiC modules increase efficiency and reduce the weight of the traction converter of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX, extending the range of the electric vehicle (EV) by up to 10%. The EV completed a 1,202 km (747 miles) journey from Stuttgart, Germany to Silverstone, England, and held the record for longest distance traveled on a single charge.

The VISION EQXX sets new standards for electric range and efficiency while remaining sustainable and luxurious – and consuming less than 10 kWh of energy per 100 km (62 miles). This was achieved through a benchmark drag coefficient of just 0.17, lightweight construction, reduced rolling resistance and the use of a battery that stores 100kWh in 50% less space (and 30% less weight) than comparable batteries. Key to the unprecedented range is an electrical system that ensures that 95% of the energy stored in the traction battery reaches the wheels – a huge improvement over internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE), which can only achieve around 30%.

Geotab Patners with Atom power for fleet management

Geotaba global leader in IoT and connected transportation, partnered with nuclear power Delivering the industry’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure integration available through Geotab’s fleet management platform, MyGeotab. Fleet managers now have access to sophisticated fleet analytics and industry-leading EV charging infrastructure to make the transition to electrification easier and more cost-effective than ever.
Electrified fleets have the potential to be cost-effective, scalable and flexible, but today face a patchwork system. The Atom Power plugin works in tandem with Geotab’s data intelligence to deliver a seamless customer experience from a single dashboard. This integrated platform provides analytics around EV charging performance, asset location, charging dates, completion times, peak management, and life cycle insights. The result: Fleet operators can save time and money by not requiring a third-party platform to analyze charging data.

Nissan introduces Carefree+

Nissan is making it easier to transition to an electric vehicle with the launch of a new customer care initiative, EV Carefree+, announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show’s AutoMobility LA. The customer-focused initiative offers Nissan Ariya and LEAF buyers an all-inclusive package to provide a positive, hassle-free experience for EV owners.

As one of the industry’s most comprehensive offerings for EV buyers, EV Carefree+ offers additional charging and maintenance benefits to help owners make the EV transition easier. EV Carefree+ combines four pillars of support:

  • Charging aid for electric vehicles: Nissan is offering Ariya and LEAF 2023 buyers or lessees free charging offers on one of the nation’s largest public fast charging networks, EVgo. Ariya buyers and lessees get unlimited public fees for one year1 at EVgo, while LEAF buyers and lessees receive a $100 charge credit at EVgo2. In addition, Nissan offers owners a seamless home charging solution in collaboration with Wallbox3. Nissan also has the largest network of high-speed EV chargers at US dealerships4.
  • Included maintenance: Planned maintenance for Nissan electric vehicles is included for three years or 36,000 miles. All service work is performed by Nissan-trained technicians at EV-certified dealerships. A tire hazard protection plan is also included to protect owners in the event of a puncture.
  • EV Battery Health Insurance: Every Nissan EV comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. When it’s time for a service, Nissan’s network of experienced EV technicians provide comprehensive, EV-specific, multi-point inspection reports.
  • Roadside assistance for electric vehicles: EV owners are covered with 24/7 roadside assistance, including free towing to the nearest Nissan dealership, charging station or even the owner’s home. Roadside Assistance Protection is active for three years or 36,000 miles from date of purchase5.

EV Carefree+ will also be available for future Nissan electric vehicles. As part of the company’s Ambition 2030 plan, Nissan has committed to making 40% of its U.S. sales electric by 2030, with many more to go electrified.

Karma Automotive electrifies shuttles

As part of a symbolic ceremony at its headquarters in Munich, Karma Automotive handed over a Karma-electrified production commercial vehicle of the Powered by Karma brand to a customer for the first time irvine. Local government officials and business leaders were in attendance, including the Vice Mayor of irvine, Anton Kuo who presented Karma with special recognition for their work on sustainability.

The newly electrified shuttles will be heading to LAX starting this month, offering QuikPark customers innovative technology to get them to their gate on time. The three shuttles were previously used as gas and CNG vehicles. But today, as all-electric, zero-emission vehicles, they are beginning a new chapter in their operational lives.

“We are excited to embark on the journey to zero emissions, Powered by Karma is converting existing shuttle bus fleets that run on either gas, diesel or propane to fully electric buses,” he said Steve Burton, President of ACE Parking. “And in today’s world, where direct fuel emissions cause all kinds of pollution, it’s great to have zero-emission vehicles that are repurposed shuttles.” He continued, “The way of the future is electric, and if we have more commercial vehicles adapt and deploy them in the public and private sectors, we will be all the better off as we electrify our nation.”

Powered by Karma is the commercial business unit of Karma Automotive and was formed to leverage existing technical know-how and operational capabilities as an OEM. Karma offers a range of products and services supporting the global electric vehicle renaissance, including electric propulsion systems and custom flexible manufacturing.

The ability to retrofit existing fleet vehicles that have been in service for years is an important factor in supporting fleet operators’ sustainability efforts. With Powered by Karma solutions, a company can take existing fleet vehicles and electrify them with an off-the-shelf powertrain system in a matter of days, while leveraging Karma’s OEM expertise as an automaker. This capability can extend the productive service life of these vehicles by up to 10 years.

Powered by Karma offers at the Karma Innovation and Customization Center (KICC) in Moreno Valley, CA This state-of-the-art 555,000 square foot manufacturing facility offers complete vehicle assembly, including full painting capabilities, and is also supported by world-class engineering, homologation testing, vehicle certification and supply chain management services.
