JACKSON, MI — Jackson’s Grand River Brewery has created a new beer inspired by or poking fun at the time in 2021 when a car crashed into the brewery.

A new beer, now on tap at Jackson’s Grand River Brewery, is named in memory of a 2021 car accident that damaged the restaurant’s exterior wall.

The new Drive Thru Brew is the first beer from Assistant Brewer Caleb Moore, who was an apprentice when he created the beer in February 2021 when the speeding driver lost control and crashed through the wall of the restaurant’s keg room.

Road Millages pass, fail in Jackson County townships in the November 8 election

Voters living in two Jackson County townships received street bond and millage proposals that appeared on their Nov. 8 ballots.

Voters living in the township of Leoni voted against a $25.6 million bond to repair all local roads, while the township of Concord passed a renewal of a road mill for continued maintenance and repairs.

Voters Say No to Jackson County Prison Amendment, 911 Improvement Proposals

Separate proposals aimed at improving public safety services in Jackson County went unheeded by local voters during Tuesday, November 8th’s election.

The proposals included a millage to fund ongoing operating expenses and a construction project at the 1995 Jackson County Jail site on Chanter Road, as well as a proposal that would authorize Jackson County to charge a fee of up to $3 per month for all landline and Landlines to survey users of wireless services who are located in the county, with the ultimate goal of improving 911 services nationwide.

Former Mayor of Jackson under 2 elected to Jackson School Board

Jackson Public Schools voters have elected a former Jackson mayor and retired counselor, who are running for public office for the first time, to two seats on the school board.

Derek Dobies will serve a six-year term on the board after collecting 7,778 votes in the Tuesday, November 8 election, along with Marilyn Acton-Dowell, who received 5,038 votes.

With Tuesday’s election on the books, school boards across Jackson County are poised to welcome new members.

Countywide, three incumbents seeking re-election in contested races were voted out of their seats on Nov. 8.

A Jackson woman has been ordered to pay more than $70,000 to the seniors’ condo in an embezzlement case.

Regina Brewer, 53, was sentenced to a suspended sentence of 365 days and 36 months by Jackson County Circuit Judge Susan Jordan on Wednesday. She was also ordered to pay $77,934 to Fayette Arms Condominiums in Jackson, where she formerly served as treasurer.

Jackson man charged with fatal shooting who will be brought to trial

A man charged with a deadly shooting in Jackson before fleeing Michigan has been arrested for a trial.

Leandrew Martin, 44, was handed over to the district court on Nov. 4 after a preliminary investigation before Jackson County District Judge Michael Klaeren, court officials said. Martin is charged with first degree murder and weapons possession stemming from the August 28 death of Markeithis Thomas-James Smith in Jackson.

Homeowner Evicted 2 Dogs in Fire North of Jackson

A fire displaced a homeowner and two dogs north of Jackson Sunday night, officials said.

Firefighters were responding to reports of a building fire at 5:37 p.m. Nov. 6 on Bartlett Road in Henrietta Township, about 20 miles northeast of Jackson, Chief Richard Wetmore of the Henrietta Township Fire Department said.

New Irish pub, Molly & Tenbrooks, coming to downtown Jackson

A new restaurant will bring a touch of Irish to downtown Jackson.

Randy LeMaster and his father, Rick LeMaster, are currently working on bringing an Irish pub to 144 W. Michigan Ave. The Molly & Tenbrooks pub will offer a new place to have a drink and eat, said Randy LeMaster
