Thanksgiving Season Brings Opportunities to Help Across Salem – Statesman Journal | CarTailz

With the holiday season approaching, there are more opportunities for community members to access holiday resources or donate time, money, or food to those in need of resources of their own.

Nationally, the non-profit GivingTuesday has celebrated mass fundraising success across the globe. The day was first celebrated in 2012 and has since fallen every Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The organization reported last year that more than $2.7 billion was donated in a single day nationwide.

In the year 2022 the day falls on November 29th.

There will be several options for those who wish to give back on site.

Thanksgiving food boxes and meals

According to Sam Tenney with Marion Polk Food Share, at least 15 Marion Polk Food Share partner kitchens will be offering Thanksgiving food boxes this year. Potential volunteers can connect to a pantry near them to volunteer, although volunteer needs will vary.

About five of Food Share’s dining partners will also be offering a holiday dinner. Anyone who would like to volunteer to serve these meals can get in touch with the volunteer team.
