TAIPEI, November 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — ProLogium Technology, a leader in solid state battery technology, announced the appointment of Dr. Hsu Wei Fu to the position of Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Tasked with establishing an international legal team and a global strategy for patent portfolio and IP protection, Hsu Wei Fu reports directly to Vincent YangFounder and CEO of ProLogium Technology, effectively October 2022.
As the global community strives to reach net-zero by 2050, governments are redoubling their efforts to accelerate the energy transition in the transport sector, a trend that further underscores the strategic importance of the lithium battery – the heart of an electric vehicle. As batteries are recognized as a key technology, countries and industry leaders are stepping up their R&D efforts and production capabilities for lithium-ion batteries. The battery industry is expected to experience exponential growth over the long term, driven by strong demand and tailwinds, with a CAGR that will reach many times that of the semiconductor industry within a decade.
ProLogium Technology’s proprietary solid state battery (SSB) technology provides a solution to the safety and performance challenges of traditional lithium-ion batteries. The battery maker has secured strategic partnerships and investments from international premium EV brands. As part of the company’s strategy to build bases close to customers and produce locally, ProLogium announced its plans for global capacity expansion earlier this year and started an overseas site selection project with a planned total capacity of 120 GWh. When completed, this project will represent an important milestone for the industrialization of solid-state batteries.
DR Hsu Wei Fu will lead efforts to establish a global legal team and ensure trade secret protection as ProLogium seeks to deepen its collaboration with customers worldwide and expand its next-generation battery manufacturing capabilities overseas. He will play a key role in the company’s efforts to maintain its leadership position in SSB technology.
Before joining ProLogium, Dr. Hsu co-founder, senior vice president and general counsel of MEMS semiconductor technology company xMEMS Labs in the US and vice president and general counsel of semiconductor giant MediaTek in the US Taiwan. His area of expertise is intellectual property management for the high-tech industry.
As MediaTek’s founding General Counsel, Dr. Hsu built its legal and IP teams, complete with internal procedures and systems, when the company only had about 100 patents worldwide. Under his leadership, MediaTek’s legal team took on global industry giants at the negotiating table and successfully resolved large patent disputes. With his extensive experience and knowledge, he formulated a global IP strategy that helped MediaTek achieve great success and maintain continuous growth despite enormous IP barriers and challenges, while protecting the company’s technological innovation.
dr Hsu is also a pioneer who spearheaded the reform of the law protecting trade secrets Taiwan. In 2012, he worked with the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office and lawmakers to push for an overhaul of the Trade Secrets Act. Made the landmark legislation Taiwan a world leader in intellectual property protection and has since provided significant support and impetus to the growth of the island’s high-tech industry. In 2014 dr. Hsu named to the Legal 500 ranking of the 100 most influential and innovative corporate legal advisors Asia Pacific Region.
“ProLogium is at a critical juncture in its transformation, like a kung fu master who has spent years training lonely in the mountains and is now ready to embark on a new journey and shine on the world stage. In the near future, ProLogium will target global car manufacturers as potential customers, but in the future our batteries can be integrated into all kinds of applications. That’s why we need to transform ourselves into a world-class company. I am honored to join ProLogium on this glorious journey and I look forward to building an international legal team to help ProLogium become a global leader,” notes Dr. Hsu.
Founder and CEO of ProLogium Vincent Yang stated that “Dr. Hsu is a legendary figure in Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Lawyer Profession. He is a valuable addition to ProLogium. As the world moves toward sustainability and net zero, ProLogium is well positioned to become a leading global next-generation battery manufacturer. Our global expansion plans have received significant support from international clients and the public sector, and a robust legal team and balanced patent portfolio strategy are critical to our efforts to become a leading global SSB manufacturer. We assume that we refer to Dr. Hsu’s intellectual and legal expertise will be relied upon to protect our intellectual property – the intangible but invaluable assets that will help maintain our lead in technology development and industrialization for next-generation batteries.”
