MONTREAL, November 16, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ – VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) is pleased to announce the award of two contracts to two Canadian companies for the modernization of their maintenance centers in Toronto and Montréal. These upgrades are a key pillar of the Corridor Fleet Replacement Program and allow these centers to become the home base for servicing VIA Rail’s 32 new trains while continuing to service and maintain our existing fleet.

VIA Rail awarded the contract for the construction of the Toronto Maintenance Center to Buttcon Limited based in Concord, Ontario. Pomerleau Inc. based in Montreal, Quebec, has been awarded the contract to work at the Montréal Maintenance Centre. The funds for these projects were provided in the 2018 federal budget, and construction will start in spring 2023.

The proponents’ evaluation was based on various criteria, including previous experience deploying similar infrastructure and the ability to complete the work safely and on time.
